Los Angeles Marathon 2009
Los Angeles Sports - Sporting Events
The Los Angeles Marathon is an annual event that has been held since 1986. Typically run on the first Sunday in March, the race has been pushed back to Memorial Day. In 2009, it was on May 25, Monday.
More than 17,000 started the race. The course followed a loop that began at 6th and Figueroa streets and ended at 5th and Flower streets. A splendid Finish Line Festival welcomed the runners who made it.
A shadow marathon was run by servicemen and women in Iraq. At noon Pacific Daylight Time on race day, about 400 troops ran the Camp Taji Memorial Day marathon. They ran at night because daytime temperatures in Iraq can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
